Looking Back at the History of the Chevrolet Corvette

For more than 60 years, the Chevrolet Corvette has been an icon of American performance. This truly American sports car has provided generations of drivers with thrilling driving dynamics and unbeatable style. 1953: Debut of the Corvette
The first Corvette model made its debut in 1953. This original Corvette vehicle was designed to bring sports car performance to a wide range of drivers. The original run of Corvette models was limited to 300 cars. Under the hood, the first Corvette was equipped with an engine that delivered 150 horsepower. By 1955, Chevrolet had introduced a V8 engine and various transmission options to the Corvette.

1963: Introduction of the Stingray
By 1963, the Corvette had been completely redesigned with new styling and advanced performance options. The 1965 Corvette Stingray was equipped with a big block V8 engine that achieved up to 450 horsepower. This legendary Corvette model made an impact on the worldwide racing scene.

1984: Corvette Innovations
In 1984, Chevrolet introduced a series of innovative updates to the Corvette sports car. This all-new addition to the Corvette lineup was named the Corvette C4. Chevy crafted this beautifully crafted Corvette model with cast aluminum suspension components and a luxuriously appointed interior. The C4 also featured an electronically engaged transmission and a state-of-the-art V8 engine.
