From a James Bond stunt to a rocket-powered jump, history has shown us some amazing car stunts. And while anyone can get a safer adrenaline rush from driving a new Chevrolet, some people always need to take it to the next level. Read on to learn about some of the most amazing car stunts in history.
The Man with the Golden Gun
James Bond movies are famous for their high-flying car stunts. The Man with the Golden Gun, released in 1974, was particularly well-known for being over the top. In this movie, British stuntman “Bumps” Willard performed a 360-degree cork-screw jump from one side of a river to the other.
Back in 2008, Liu Suozhu of China performed one of the most unique car stunts in history. Instead of jumping, gaining speed, or launching off of a ramp, Liu Suozhu drove 150 feet across the Miluo River while balancing the car on two steel cables.
The One-Million Dollar Jump
In 1976, Kenny Powers performed one of the most extreme car stunts in history. After preparing for five years and spending more than $1 million, Powers launched a rocket-powered car over a mile-wide river. Before it left the ramp, it had attained a speed of 280 mph.
Racing the Streets of Paris at Dawn
In 1978, Claude Lelouch filmed himself driving for 9 minutes through the streets of Paris just after dawn. He dodged people and traffic, and managed to clock a top speed of 140 mph. Upon releasing the film to the public, Lelouch was arrested for endangering the lives of others.
Skydiving with Vehicles
For this stunt, a group of skydivers decided to sit in several convertibles as they were rolled out of the back of an airplane. To complete the dive, they would jump out, usually right before the car started to spin rapidly.
