How to Make Sure that Your Car is Ready for Winter Weather

Last updated 3 years ago

So your car made it through the summer without a problem? Congratulations, but you’re not out of the woods yet. In fact, the winter can be harder on your vehicle than the summer, especially here in Baltimore where below-freezing temperatures are common. Fortunately, there are some easy things you can do to make sure your vehicle is in tip-top shape all winter long.

Inspect the Antifreeze

You probably know that antifreeze will protect your engine from freezing up in the winter, but did you know that antifreeze will also protect your engine from overheating? That’s right, your engine can still overheat even when temperatures outside are below freezing, so make your vehicle has plenty of antifreeze before the worst weather arrives.

Check the Tires

Winter roads can be very treacherous, especially if your tires are in poor shape. Check your tire pressure at least two times each week, and make sure that each tire has plenty of tread remaining to ensure ample traction on wet and frozen roads. You may also want to consider investing in a set of winter tires for your vehicle.

Get an Oil Change

If you can’t remember the last time you took your vehicle in for an oil change, make an appointment at Jerry’s Chevrolet before your engine sustains serious damage. Old, dirty engine oil becomes extremely thick during the wintertime. That’s like trying to circulate maple syrup through your veins instead of blood. To keep your engine from overworking, bring your vehicle in for an oil change and consider a high-grade synthetic oil.
