The 2014 Chevrolet Cruze has arrived at Jerry’s Chevrolet in Baltimore as a four door passenger car with an available option in diesel for the first time since 1986.
So what’s new?
The brand new diesel model comes equipped with a 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbo charged diesel engine. This gives you 151 horsepower, enough to give you the extra power when you want it and comfortable cruising speeds when you don’t. With surprising fuel economy rating of 27/47, the 47-mpg EPA fuel economy rating is on par with most hybrids and is the highest of any non-hybrid car sold in the U.S. The Cruze diesel also features all of the standard equipment that you would find in the 2LT trim as well as some of the body enhancements featured in the Eco trim. “Unlike diesels years ago, today's engines aren’t loud and smelly like we remember them being,” Dave Warder, General Manager of Jerry’s Chevrolet, stated.
Do I have to get the diesel?
Not at all! The 2014 Cruze comes available in six trims, the turbo charged diesel, LS, 1LT, 2LT, LTZ, and Eco.
The LS base model comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, OnStar, keyless entry, a folding rear seat, Bluetooth capability, and satellite radio. Under the hood is a 1.8L four-cylinder engine with 138 horsepower and 125 lb-ft torque.
After that is the LT trim. Giving you some more power, the LT features a 1.4L turbo charged four-cylinder engine. The 1LT comes with a MyLink interface, rearview camera, and some available Eco options. The 2LT has all the standard 1LT features and then some sporty additions like its brilliant sport tuned suspension and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Moving up to the LTZ you get all the content found in the 2LT, 18-inch alloy wheels, technology and driver convenience packages, plus keyless ignition and entry.
Finally you have the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Eco trim. This features the content found in the 1LT, MyLink interface, spoiler, 17-inch alloy wheels, rolling resistant tires, and a 1.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
What about safety?
The 2014 Chevy Cruze has stability control and an antilock braking system standard in all trims. An enhanced safety package is available for all the trims except the LS. In 2012, the Cruze was awarded a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA and chosen as an IIHS2012 top safety pick.
