For 2014, Chevrolet has rolled out three new high performance vehicles: the Corvette Stingray, the Camaro Z28 and the SS. Here is a quick look at these beauties. To see the video of the reveal of the 2014 Camaro Z28 click here.
The ALL NEW 2014 Corvette Stingray
The Stingray is the most powerful Corvette model yet, with 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque, it can go from 0 to 60 mph in less than four seconds. An all-new LT1 6.2-liter V8 engine combines with other technologies like direct fuel injection and more to make this a high speed, high performance car. To go along with this new engine is a new seven-speed transmission with Active rev Matching that will anticipate gear selections and match engine speed for perfect shifts. With this and much more in the Stingray, it is a definitely a high performance car that demands respect. Look for it to hit the showroom later this year according to Chevrolet.
The ALL NEW 2014 Camaro Z28
This all new fifth generation Camaro Z28 is the ideal car for anyone that is looking for a street legal racing car. Equipped with a high revving naturally aspirated small block LS7 7.0-liter V8 with an estimated 500 HP with 470 lb-ft of torque, this car has all the power you could want. It has a standard differential cooler, transmission cooler, brake coolers and carbon-ceramic brakes that have been designed for the track with no fade. This car was made to be extremely light, the trunk carpet and insulation have been taken out, thinner glass was used for the rear window, air conditioning has been made optional and all speakers but one have been removed. Overall the Camaro Z28 is about 300 pounds lighter than the Camaro ZL1. If you are wondering why only one speaker was left, it’s because at least one speaker has to be in the car so that you can hear the seatbelt chime that lets you know a seat belt isn’t buckled. Chevrolet engineers have described the grip to be “nothing short of incredible.” Chevrolet has said that this monster should be in showrooms later this year and that they expect to see them on track in spring 2014.
The Brand New SS
The SS is going to be the first V8 rear-wheel drive performance sedan that Chevrolet has released since 1996. It made its debut on the track earlier this year at the Daytona 500 and won with Jimmy Johnson in the driver’s seat. The street version is powered by LS3 6.2-liter V8 engine that is expected to have around 415 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. The SS has a six-speed automatic transmission that can be shifted to manual using TAPshift paddles located on the steering wheel. This bad boy can go from 0 to 60 mph in about five seconds, making it one of the fastest sedans out there. The SS is should be in showrooms later this year, so watch out for it.
