Top Moments In Chevy Motorsport History

Last updated 1 day 19 hours ago

Chevrolet has accumulated motorsport victories for more than a century. And anyone who has ever driven a sporty Chevrolet such as a new Corvette knows that racing has heavily influenced the Chevrolet brand. Keep reading to take a closer look at some of the best moments in Chevy motorsport history.

    Louis Chevrolet’s Race
Some refer to it as the race that started it all. In 1907, William “Billy” Durant, the founder of General Motors, proposed a race between Louis Chevrolet and his brother Arthur. The winner, according to Billy, would have the honor of serving as his personal chauffeur. Already an internationally known racer, Louis beat his brother. Even so, Billy gave the job to Arthur, because he thought Louis wouldn’t drive safely enough to be a chauffeur. But Louis won in the end: It was only a few years after this that the first Chevrolet was born.

    The Corvette’s Trip to France
More than 50 years after Louis Chevrolet’s race, the Corvette was introduced to the international racing community. Sportsman Briggs Cunningham introduced it to the continent and it won the first-ever Chevrolet victory at Le Mans. Since then, the Corvette has continued to beat the competition, seizing its eighth consecutive victory at the Manufacturer’s Championship in 2008—a win that officially made the Corvette team the most successful in American Le Mans Series history.

Dale Earnhardt Sr. Takes the Daytona 500
In 1998 Dale Earnhardt Sr. made history by winning his first and only victory at the “Great American Race,” the Daytona 500. The moments that followed his victory are some of the most famous in all of sports history, with everyone lining up to shake his hand on his slow drive to Victory Lane.

Protect Your New Investment with Essential Summer Car Care Tips

    Last updated 8 days ago

As the temperatures rise in the Baltimore area this summer, it’s important to be sure your ride is prepared. A well-maintained Chevrolet ensures optimal efficiency, safety, and overall lifetime. To learn more about how to protect your investment by going to the Chevrolet dealership for summer car maintenance, read on.

    Check the Tires
Check the air pressure of your tires once per month, comparing the readings with the recommended tire pressure listed in the driver’s doorsill. Head to the Chevrolet dealership to have the tire pressure adjusted, because improper pressure can negatively impact your new Chevrolet’s fuel economy, tire life, braking power, and handling. When you’re at the dealership for summer car care, the technicians will inspect the tread on your tires to be sure they have at least 4/32 inches of tread depth; any less, and your Chevrolet is at risk for tire failure. At Jerry’s Chevrolet, we also recommend you get a tire rotation every 5,000 miles and a wheel alignment every 10,000 miles to extend the life of your tires and ensure optimal fuel efficiency.

    Inspect the Fluids
The oil in your new Chevrolet should be changed roughly every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. When you are at the Chevrolet service center, technicians will also check the brake fluid, transmission fluid, and coolant to make sure the fluids are clean and at the proper levels. If you haven’t replaced the air filter in the last 15,000 miles, replace it as soon as possible to reduce engine wear this summer.

    Change the Windshield Wipers
The Baltimore area receives frequent summer showers, so it’s essential for your safety that you have windshield wipers that can handle the rain. Replace the windshield wipers every six months to ensure year-round visibility.

For all of your summer maintenance needs, come to Jerry’s Chevrolet of Baltimore. Our technicians are factory trained and certified. Visit our website to learn more about our Chevrolet service center, and call us at (443) 219-3112 if you have any questions.
